A Prayer -- 23 months into war in Ukraine
A Prayer -- 23 months into war in Ukraine
Lord, we are tired of this war. We are tired of people arguing about how to respond to this war.
Lord, we are also scared by the war. Frightened by the predictions that this war will continue and will expand to other nations.
We confess that our exhaustion and our fear have created a lethargy in us. We have worn out our emotions, we have worn out of compassion.
But, Lord, this war is not about us living in safety in Fergus, or other communities in Canada. This war for us is a distant reality that we can talk about with some detachment. Shake us from our lethargy, that we might pray with earnestness and compassion for all those who are directly impacted by this war.
We pray for families whose loved ones have been killed, give them comfort.
We pray for those who have been injured and those who sit with them, give them hope and healing.
We pray for individuals, families, communities that have been displaced, give them resilience and stability in you.
We pray for children displaced, left orphaned, confused, take them up in your arms of love and protect them.
We pray for peace, an end to the shooting, shelling, violence. We pray for humility to overcome pride, and care overcome self-centeredness.
O Lord, remind us that no matter what happens you walk with us. Give us the strength to hold on that promise so that we will be among those who live by your call: Do not be afraid.
These things we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
